Message by the principal

At GIS, we prioritise the holistic development of every child, with a strong focus on social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth. We guide each student in their pursuit of excellence. In this quest for enlightenment, we nurture innovative leaders who master 21st-century skills to overcome challenges in the global community.

By adopting multidimensional approaches, we promote the core values of GIS: Sensitivity, Integrity, Pursuit of Excellence, and Pride in One’s Heritage. Through these core values, we believe our students must be molded with habits that become an integral part of their daily activities. To support this vision, we have internalised the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. We take pride in being the only Leader in Me School in the Maldives.

Education must inspire lifelong learners who are attuned to environmental changes, community diversity, and cultural differences. We aim to nurture generations of peacemakers. We believe our students must be aware of the human impact on ecology and biodiversity. Therefore, GIS exclusively uses environmentally friendly materials and discourages the use of disposable plastic within the school.

We instill respect for cultural differences and diversity, believing that each child is unique and special. Every student deserves respect and must be treated fairly. At GIS, students are nurtured to be self-aware and faithful to themselves and others, with a genuine desire for mutually beneficial solutions. The best students practice honesty and demonstrate consistent, unwavering adherence to strong moral and ethical principles, embodying true integrity.

We promote competitiveness in a positive manner, encouraging self-challenge for improvement in sportsmanship and various activities. Through co-curricular and extracurricular programs, we provide platforms for students to excel holistically. We believe in scaffolding and ensure our children progress through the zone of proximal development.

GIS is committed to offering the best holistic learning environment for all our students.

Thank you

HISTORY

Ghiyasuddin School was a government school established in 1999 with assistance of the Government of Japan. In 2010, it was reformed under the Public Private Partnership as Ghiyasuddin International School (GIS), under the management of Shri Educare Pvt Ltd, India.

GIS held an ‘Open Day’ on 8th January 2010, attended by President Mohamed Nasheed.
Although the school song, colours and logo were changed, the motto remained the same: ‘LEARN AND LEAD’.

School background and aims

GIS is a co-educational school catering to children between the ages of 6 and 16 years.

Our preparatory year as an international school began on a good note with a number of promising students and dedicated staff.

As the Government of Maldives opened avenues for private schools to flourish under the new Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, The Shri Ram Schools in India entered the picture to share the teaching learning experience of their established and successful educational institutes, providing an international arena.

GS now known as GIS, previously a government school opened in 1999, comprises 36 classrooms, a Science lab, an AV Room, a music room, a library, and a computer room. It also has a large multipurpose hall, and a school compound that can cater to a wide range of sports and physical education activities.

The philosophy of the school is to form a partnership between home, school and the community, as we believe education to be a three-way process, which can only be successful with support for the child from these three critical stakeholders in the child’s growth to responsible adulthood.

Our aim is to provide an environment conducive to learning where all the children can develop knowledge, skills and values through a child – centric curriculum that encompasses opportunities for cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth.

Our Vision

An outstanding institution for its excellence, innovation, inclusivity and leadership.

Our Mission

We strive to fashion the GIS family, in an inclusive environment, with the knowledge, skills and high moral values to shoulder the responsibilities of exemplary and proactive citizens who are well balanced in a world of constant change

Our core values are:

Sensitivity:
• to the environment
• to special education needs
• to the community
• to our own and other cultures

Integrity:

• In all actions and deeds

Pursuit of Excellence:
• Students and teachers are encouraged to excel in any area of their ability. Competition is encouraged, but with a difference. Every student is encouraged to compete with himself or herself to do the best that he or she can do.

Pride in one’s Heritage:

• Wherever in the world one might go, it is important to remember where one has come from. The school believes that it is important for students to know and appreciate their country and take pride in its achievements
• Respectful and observant about traditions
• To be ambassadors for the country wherever their life’s journey takes them
