The view from the other side

I stared at the golden engraving on the elevator that read ‘Glamour Residence’, as the elevator abruptly came to a stop and dinged. I had never liked this apartment complex building as it blocked my view of the sunset. My heart was filled with glee and curiosity as I had finally managed to get a chance to visit the terrace of the 97-floor skyscraper.

A short hike up some steep steps lead to a narrow hallway pointing towards a glass door that was tinted with a dark green. The door swiftly opened upon hearing my footsteps and I was met with a cold breeze caressing my face. The terrace was a vast area shaped like a rectangle with green railings lining all sides. I glanced up to see that the sky was a hue of gentle pink, an indicator that a mesmerising sunset was nearing.

Ambling towards the railing and peering out almost made my heart jump out of my body. I gulped back my fear of heights as I stared down onto the bustling streets below. The artery of light was hectic, as a multitude of vehicles glazed a slight yellow fluorescence on the black asphalt. The vehicles were so tiny that they looked like ants.

I peered up from the street and saw that the perspective from this point overlooked the rest of the city and the extensive lake behind it. In the distance, I could see the silhouette of another megapolis, laying on the horizon as pastel colours painted the sky above it.

The turquoise water of the lake glistened in a mesmerising shade of blue as the sun began to slowly creep down and caress the water. The majestic sunset, a mere prelude to dusk, filled my mind with soothing thoughts. I could see a tiny canoe rowing out towards sunset, two tiny people rowing rhythmically and drifting through the stagnant body of water as if the wind was carefully dragging them. The unwrinkled, aqua water of the lake was the humble notability of the scene, as the fiery but gentle rays of the sun stole the show.

The view really made me feel insignificant in this world of sheer wonder. However, I realised that there was a feeling of comfort in that insignificance, I gazed up towards the darkening sky as the scintillating stars had now begun to introduce themselves. The perspective from the other side really was all kinds of wonderful.
