Purpose of Animation

The ongoing discussion whether cartoons are necessary or not may eventually form into a heated debate. I believe that any form of animation done right can greatly benefit the future of entertainment.

Many believe that animation for filmmaking only targets small children, and uses them as “steppingstones” to later appreciate live action due to their idea of realism. Many cartoons indeed do follow the same path of childish characters for a common purpose such as humor. However, animation and story done in their own unique way can surely benefit from a show rather than just humor. Cartoons eventually show having a larger impact on the entertainment world.

There is also the sense of how cartoons come from directors that work harder and deserve more credit for their work than what the live action filmmakers get. Although it may sound controversial, animation for a single episode can take months as artists work day and night for others to witness their efforts to entertain. A show made with the blood, sweat and tears of the creator can be shown in whatever way the audience sees as unique to other shows.

Overall, I still believe that a cartoon can truly strike anyone at the heart based on the format the show is given out. There is no doubt the animation may look generic, however that same animation can show how fascinating the story can be.
