World Ocean Day
A special assembly was held to mark World Ocean Day at GIS today. Dr Riyaz Jauhary, Deputy Director General at Maldives Marine Research Institute, and Ms Madhuha Abdulrahman, operations Assistant at Parley Maldives, attended as guest speakers. Dr. Riyaz gave a comprehensive summary of the formation of the atolls in the Maldives, the ecosystems found across the nation and the importance of preserving and sustaining our oceans.
Ms. Madhuha talked about the significant role of the oceans to the Maldives and highlighted GIS students' contribution in intercepting single use plastic going into our oceans.

World Environment Day
Today GIS marked World Environment Day with the inauguration of class gardens. This educational experience is also the beginning of this year's Project Based Learning. Today students planted six different types of vegetables. Students started their gardens embracing the 2nd habit of the Leader in Me, "Begin with the end in mind" and will work towards harvesting the produce as a culmination activity.

WSC Closing Ceremony
The closing ceremony of WSC Maldives Regional Round 2024 ended with flying colours. With 428 participants and countless medals and trophies it was a night studded with brilliant achievements. These victories were no doubt made sweeter by the attendance of beloved parents and family members, both in the school hall as well as those attending the live screening right outside.
A hearty congratulations once again to all the winners of the night.
