Public Service Announcement on Autism Awareness

{flike}

To mark World Autism Awareness Day students from grades 7-9 were given the opportunity to produce a Public Service Announcement (PSA) in the form of a short movie. Public Service Announcement also known as PSA is a content broadcast on radio or television for the public interest. PSAs are intended to modify public attitudes by raising awareness about specific issues.

To produce the PSA, students completed a 4-day Student Media Production Training Workshop facilitated by the well-known screen writer and director, Mr. Mohamed Niyaz (Tedry). The theme of the PSA was “Understanding and Acceptance of Autism.” Sixty six students in total participated in this training.

After the training five groups came up with a PSA. Below are the group names in no particular order.

  • Something Different
  • Two Worlds
  • Stand with Autism
  • Eight Voices
  • Thafaathu Hunareh

From the above groups first place was won by Eight Voices, second place and third place went to Stand with Autism and Something Different respectively. Please click the following links to view the PSAs.

1st place: Eighth Voices

2nd place: Stand with Autism

3rd place: Something Different

GIS wishes the PSAs produced by the students help in raising awareness about autism. With awareness, comes understanding and with understanding comes acceptance.
